Help Me Helen
Inspired by a true story
Created by Zoe Markos & Jessica Orcsik
After placing her Alzheimer’s-stricken grandmother in a privately owned nursing home, a forensic photographer uncovers a disturbing pattern, leading her into a maze of manipulation, institutional profit, and a corporate machine that turns death into revenue.
Help Me Helen is inspired by real-life cases of neglect and abuse in aged care, including Australia's Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety and the Oakden scandal. Over 39% of residents in Australian nursing homes report some form of abuse.
This series was further inspired by the real story of Dimitria Christodoulakis, a Melbourne woman with Alzheimer’s who was mistreated in care and nearly lost her life. Her granddaughter, Zoe Markos, has brought this story to life as a writer and producer.
